We leave tomorrow morning. Most everything is packed. I am trying to make sure everything fits to 2 bags per family member, a suitcase and a carry-on bag. The 4 carry-on bags will consist of one toiletry bag, one bag of snacks for the train ride and 2 bags for entertainment devices on the train. The message boards at Amtrak Unlimited have provided a lot of good information about what we should bring with us on the train.
We'll be leaving around 7:30 am. Hopefully I can get everyone up and moving on time. Eli should be no problem. He has been bouncing off the walls with excitement all week. He loves amusement parks and hasn't stopped talking about what we are going to do. I took him to Cedar Point and Waldameer Park this summer and he loved them both. Jonah is definitely more cool about it all. He isn't the thrill seeker Eli is. Jonah is more sensitive and creative. I have been building up the creative part of Disney to Jonah.
As a lifelong DisneyWorlder (my new word), I am curious to see the differences between the two Magic Kingdoms. I KNOW Walt Disney World. I took 8 trips there while growing up. I spent almost a year working on Main Street USA after college. I've taken 5 trips since my work experience. I've stayed at the Polynesian 3 times, Port Orleans twice, Fort Wilderness twice, All-Star Resorts twice (unfortunately) and once each at the Caribbean Beach, Contemporary & Golf Resort. I have seen a little of the backstage areas. I have been in the underground tunnels. I know the place pretty well.
So I am anxious to see the differences between the parks. How much more intimate is Disneyland? Is the Pirates Of The Caribbean that much better in California? Is the Tower Of Terror that much worse? Is the food as good as they say it is compared to Walt Disney World? Is the Grand Californian as awesome as the Polynesian Village? Plus, it'll be nice to ride Mr. Toad's Wild Ride again.
It is funny, but two of my favorite Disney blogs have recently written about experiencing Disneyland as a long time DisneyWorlder. The Explorium has a post about his first trip to Disneyland after a life of visiting Walt Disney World. FoxxFur and her excellent blog Passport To Dreams Old & New has also posted about her year living in California after spending her life in Orlando. I have held off reading these two posts until I have finished my trip. I don't want their thoughts to influence mine.
I hope to send a quick post tomorrow morning before we leave and also when we get to Kansas City. I'll be without internet on the train.
